Enriching Your Life Together

FAQs

How is your approach different from traditional talk therapy?

Talking can be helpful, but many people I work with come to therapy after realizing that insight alone hasn’t been enough to shift the patterns they feel stuck in.

My approach considers how trauma, stress, and early attachment experiences shape both the nervous system and our ways of relating to ourselves and others. Rather than focusing only on understanding your story, we also pay attention to how those experiences live in the body and influence patterns of regulation, emotion, and relationship.

Drawing from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic therapy, and experiential approaches, our work focuses on creating new experiences of safety, connection, and choice, not just new explanations for why things feel difficult.

Change often happens gradually. As we slow down and listen to what your body, nervous system, and internal protective patterns are communicating, space opens for greater flexibility, capacity, and self-trust.

Can these approaches work virtually?

Yes, absolutely! All of the modalities I use can be adapted for virtual therapy, and many clients find doing this work from home creates a greater sense of comfort and safety.

Whether we’re working with the body through Somatic Experiencing, using bilateral stimulation for EMDR, exploring parts with IFS, or gently reconnecting with food and body cues through Intuitive Eating, we’ll adapt everything to fit your environment. I’ll guide you in grounding, resourcing, and staying within your window of tolerance, whether you’re meeting with me online or in person.

Is teletherapy secure?

Yes. I use a HIPAA-compliant, HITRUST-certified platform that protects your privacy. Through the Client Portal, you’ll be able to complete paperwork, securely message me, update billing info, and attend sessions all in one place.

What kinds of issues do you work with?

I specialize in helping adults and couples work through:

  • Complex and developmental trauma

  • Disordered eating and body image distress

  • Dissociation and shutdown

  • Religious trauma and spiritual wounding

  • Sexual trauma and body-based shame

  • People-pleasing, perfectionism, and chronic overwhelm

  • Relationship struggles rooted in early attachment wounds

  • Feeling disconnected from your own needs, emotions, or body

What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is a gentle starting point. It’s a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what’s bringing you in, and begin exploring what you hope for from therapy.

We will spend some time gathering important background information and beginning to understand how your system has adapted over time. Many of the patterns that show up in the present made sense at some point in your life, and part of our work is learning how those adaptations developed and how they may still be trying to help.

Depending on what brings you to therapy, we may also begin introducing some of the approaches that shape my work. For example, we might start noticing nervous system responses, exploring how different parts of you respond to stress, or gently bringing awareness to what you are experiencing in your body.

For many people, this can feel different from traditional talk therapy. Alongside conversation, we may incorporate small experiential moments that help you notice and connect with your internal experience in real time.

There is no expectation to do this “right.” Whatever shows up simply gives us information. Whether you notice strong sensations, subtle shifts, or nothing at all, each response becomes a useful data point that helps guide where we go next. Even not feeling anything can be meaningful information about how your system has learned to protect you, and together we follow those signals with curiosity rather than pressure.

Do you accept insurance?

I’m in-network with select insurance plans in both Kansas and Maryland, and also offer out-of-network services. If I’m not in-network with your plan, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. All billing and documentation is handled securely through the Client Portal.

For a full list of accepted insurance plans, out-of-network options, session rates, and therapy intensives, click here to visit the Fees & Services page.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

At this time, I am only able to offer virtual therapy for clients located in both Kansas and Maryland.

What can I do to get the most out of therapy sessions?

A few simple practices can help support the therapy process:

Come as you are.
You do not need to be polished, prepared, or emotionally “together.” Showing up as you are is enough.

Stay curious.
Healing is rarely linear and often brings up unexpected experiences. Approaching what arises with curiosity rather than judgment can open space for new understanding.

Notice what happens between sessions.
Sometimes the most meaningful insights show up in everyday moments, in your body, your reactions, or your relationships. These experiences become valuable information we can explore together.

Advocate for your needs.
This is your space. If something feels confusing, uncomfortable, or especially important, naming it helps guide our work.

Give yourself time.
Lasting change tends to unfold gradually. Healing is often quiet, layered, and nonlinear. There is no timeline you need to meet.
